In order to create locations in the warehouse, it is important to have completed the previous steps correctly. Once these processes have been completed, you can start to organise the warehouse by creating storage locations for the different products.
A location is a place where each of the products in the warehouse will be stored. Without locations, the warehouse cannot function properly as it affects picking processes, returns and most functionalities.
In this step we will also show you how to create pallets. A pallet is a location where your product will be stored and sorted so that it can later be relocated to a location and the picking process can be carried out. In addition, pallets are also used for some method of picking when a large quantity of product needs to be picked for the order in question.
IMPORTANT!
- The entire warehouse must be organised in the manner in which it will start to operate. In other words, all slots must be clearly divided so that the locations can be placed.
- Amphora allows only one SKU per location.
- In the case of batch operations, only one batch number per location is accepted.
What steps do I need to take to create a location?
Here is a video tutorial to learn how to create locations:
You can also follow the instructions with the steps below.
STEP 1
Within the Amphora application, go to the menu and click on inventory.
STEP 2
Click on locations, then click on create locations.
STEP 3
Add the necessary information to create the locations in your warehouse:
-
Block: indicates the number of the aisle where the product will be located.
-
Level: indicates with a letter the height at which the product will be placed.
-
Position: order your locations (within the same level) from position 1 forward.
-
Number: indicates the number of locations you want to create (example: if you type 50, locations from 1+A1 to 1+A50 will be created).
STEP 4
Once you have entered all the necessary information, click on total locations to see all the codes that will be created and printed.
STEP 5
Click on create locations.
How should I place the locations?
Once the locations have been created and printed, they can be placed in their respective locations. This step is just as important as the pre-creation step, as incorrect placement will affect most processes. Even so, there is no secret to placing the locations. It is a process that must be carried out for optimal warehouse organisation, so we also recommend doing it in an orderly manner.
Tips for correct installation:
- Start placing locations from corridor 1, level A and position 1.
- Attach the corresponding label to the shelf so that pickers understand which location the label refers to.
- You can check that the locations are perfectly understood by testing the warehouse operators with a simulation.
Below, you can see how the bins should be positioned in your warehouse.
Recommendations for product placement in the locations:
- Place the best sellers in the locations at the beginning of the aisles closest to the packing station.
- It facilitates the task of pickers by placing best sellers halfway up the shelves.
- Separate the best sellers a bit from each other so that the pickers don't get annoyed.
- If you are very clear about your best sellers, we recommend assigning more than one location to that product. This is important so that locations do not run out of stock quickly, although it also depends on the amount of stock that will fit in a location. For example, if a slot holds 50 units of product, it is highly recommended to duplicate the location, but if the size of the product in question is smaller and holds 200 units, it may not be necessary to duplicate.
- For the rest of the products, place them as you see fit, always keeping in mind to facilitate the task of the pickers.
What steps do I have to follow to create a pallet location?
To create a pallet location you have to replicate the same process you have done for the locations. Here is a video tutorial to learn how to create pallet locations:
You can also follow the instructions with the steps below.

Within the Amphora application, go to the menu and click on inventory.
STEP 2

STEP 5
Click on create pallets.
How should I place the pallet locations?
In the same way as the locations we have already discussed, once the pallet locations have been created and printed, they can be placed in their respective locations. This step is as important as the previous creation, because if the placement is not correct, it will affect most processes. Therefore, we recommend that you follow these tips to optimise your warehouse and make your operators' tasks easier. Below, we show you how the bins should be positioned in your warehouse.
Recommendations for product placement on pallet locations:
- Place the pallets of best sellers as close as possible to the picking location, so it will be easier to refill.
- If the locations have different heights, place the best sellers as low as possible.
- For the rest of the products, place them as you see fit, always keeping in mind to facilitate the task of the pickers.
What should the final result look like?
Once the locations have been created, the warehouse should be as close as possible to this:
